Sometimes looking down can be more interesting than looking up
This project is a map of sidewalk stamps in South Park, San Diego.
A sidewalk stamp is a small imprint left in concrete by contractors when they build a section of sidewalk. The stamps often include the name of the contractor and the date when the sidewalk was poured.
And because our weather is so mild in San Diego, many of these stamps are still visible over a hundred years later, providing a unique glimpse into the history of our neighborhood.
By mapping these stamps, we can uncover the hidden history of South Park and the people who helped build our neighborhood.
